Ways to measure exercise intensity:

Pulse Check:

  1. Take pulse for 10 seconds either at the Carotid (neck) or Radial Artery (wrist). Do not press too hard or use the thumb on the carotid artery otherwise you will not get a reading. You may also take the pulse at the Radial Artery (at the inside of the wrist just below the wrist bone, straight down from the base of the thumb).
  2. The pulse can be taken at least 2 time during a class to check
    individuals intensity level.

After the cool down, the heart rate should be below 120 BPM. (20
beats for a 10 second count).

The Talk Test:

Participants should never work at an intensity which would not allow them to carry on a comfortable conversation. As exercise level improve this my no longer be valid seeing that individuals my be able to handle extreme intensities.
